I have been a team member of Lumonics since 1972. I am the administrator of the Lumonics School of Light Art. I am also the publicist for Lumonics, co-archivist of the project, social media director, organizer of field trips to Lumonics, and maintain the Lumonics website. I assist in the art studio, on art installations, and am a co-curator. I also host and am co-producer of Lumonics Immersed.
My background in education and marketing, and attended Loyola University Graduate School of Education in Chicago, majoring in Guidance and Counseling. I am a former language arts teacher in the Chicago Public School System.
While teaching, I was looking for a personal breakthrough in my consciousness, and a field trip for the students that could truly impact them. I was told about the Lumonics Light & Sound Theatre and its founders, artists Dorothy and Mel Tanner. After I attended their performances and got to meet the artists, I volunteered for the project. We also present a wonderful field trip and guided tour program!
I am a community member of the Neuroarts Resource Center, based at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and its International Arts + Mind Lab. The field of neuroarts is the study of how aesthetic experiences and the arts measurably change the brain, body, and behavior and how this knowledge is translated into practices that advance health and wellbeing.”
I write a personal blog and the blog for Lumonics.
Lumonics was a team of 7 for many years. 5 have passed away including Dorothy and Mel Tanner. Teammate Marc Billard and I continue the project, archiving the collection of over 200 sculptures, reproducing a selected number as limited editions, and continue the Tanners’ multimedia expression through the evolving Lumonics Immersed. We began the Lumonics Legacy Project in 2023 for the continuation of one of the first and longest-running light art projects in the US.
