Hi Everyone!
Happy Spring!
Here are some of the latest happenings at Lumonics

Marc’s Mountain Meditation 3 video, was accepted in the upcoming Tilting West: Defining A New Legacy Exhibition at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. The exhibit opens June 3 and ends on August 23, 2026. We hope you can see the exhibit.
Contemporary regional artists—whether or not they identify as Western artists—were invited to explore and reinterpret the American Western genre through a contemporary lens. Tilting West challenges traditional notions of Western art, encouraging work that reflects diverse perspectives, materials, and themes, from environmental concerns to social commentary. Artists working in unconventional forms or conceptual approaches were especially encouraged to apply.
Mountain Meditation 3 has been played at Lumonics Immersed,
“The source material is Colorado car rides and hikes in the mountains, which I record using a mobile phone camera and/or Insta360 camera attached to the car window or mounted on the roof. I then transform the imagery in production, and add my original soundtrack. No AI!”
– Marc Billard

Lumonics is honored to receive a grant from The Denver Theatre District Microgrant Program in the spring of 2026. The funds will be used to present field trips for Title 1 Schools in the Denver Metro Area.
The field trip consists of a tour of the gallery, art studio, and art school; a short documentary about the history of Lumonics, among the first and longest-running light art projects in the United States; a light and sound immersion, orchestrated live; a question and answer session; and concludes with taking the students “behind the scenes” to show them how we create the immersion. Teachers are provided with a follow-up lesson plan for the classroom.
About the Denver Theatre District:
The Denver Theatre District consists of a 16-block area of downtown Denver that enables interactive, immersive and experimental arts and culture events and experiences. It provides creatives with a platform and financial support for sharing their work.

We recently hosted a middle school photography class that attends Denver Academy. Thomas Laird, Digital Art and SmartLab Instructor, organized the field trip. We gave the students free rein to photograph the light sculptures. They had quite a time!
We enjoyed hosting Imagine! clients who came to Lumonics for a guided tour/immersion.
Imagine!, based in Lafayette, CO,is a provider agency offering services designed to allow individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to engage in their communities.
The School Age Services brought students from the ages of 7 to 21. Some of the students could only utter sounds but were very expressive!
We were delighted to receive this email the following day:
Thank you so much for hosting our group yesterday! It was really special to see our group so calm and engaged for such an extended time. There is certainly something to be said about the neurological impact of the experience you offer!
Thank you also for being flexible and accommodating with the needs of our group. We truly felt welcomed and supported and that means so much. We hope to be back again someday!
Best wishes,
Riley M.

Lumonics is honored to be accepted to participate in the 2026 Denver Fringe Festival that takes place June 4 thru June 7, 2026.
We will be presenting performances of Lumonics Immersed during those 4 days at the Lumonics Light & Sound Gallery. Each performance is original and not repeated.
The Annual Fringe Festival
Denver’s thriving arts scene is overflowing with talent and innovation. Our goal is to provide more outlets every year so artists have a way to test their work, try new things, and push the boundaries. And we want to channel that work into performance venues at accessible prices so that live performance is available to as many people as possible. We do this every June at our annual Fringe festival that features dozens of fresh, original shows at venues throughout the RiNo Art District, the greater Five Points area and beyond.
At the Denver Fringe Festival, we believe that the power of performance art can’t be overstated, that it’s a key component to inspiring thought-provoking conversations and building thriving communities.

Threads of Light:
An Immersive Evening with KIMEAN on Sunday, April 19
Khmer-American singer-songwriter KIMEAN crafts cinematic-pop music that feels both intimate and expansive. She crafts layered vocals, lush soundscapes, and storytelling that is both tender and unflinching.
Developed in partnership with Lumonics Light & Sound Gallery, Threads of Light weaves KIMEAN’s music with the gallery’s hand-crafted light art, transforming the space into a living, breathing tapestry of sound and color.
Featuring pieces from her upcoming album, KIMEAN takes audiences on a journey inspired by her mother’s survival of the Khmer Rouge and her own struggle with the wounds that pass silently between generations.
Threads of Light invites you to step inside the music and be surrounded by story, light, and sound.

Your Brain on Art : How the Arts Transform Us
Lumonics is a community member of the Neuroarts Resource Center.
“For over 50 years, Lumonics has been a pioneer in light art. Founded in the 1960s by the late Dorothy and Mel Tanner, it is ‘one of the first and longest-standing light art studios in the U.S., long before immersive art was considered a trend.’”
– Denverite
“We present the most up-to-date form of the Lumonics expression that originated in 1969. Our intention is to expand the boundaries of sensory engagement and artistic expression, and honor Dorothy and Mel Tanner’s contribution to light art and the immersive experience. If you want to get away, we’ll take you there.”
